Death of retired publican, John Smyth

'Smyths of the Bridge' was famed Navan hostelry

The death has occurred of the retired Navan publican, John Smyth, whose public house on Academy Street, Navan, was fondly known as ‘Smyths of the Bridge’, as it stood beside the Railway Bridge.

Son of the late Patrick and Kathleen, John, who lived at Ardsallagh, Navan, was predeceased by wife Rose, brothers Phil and Thomas Oliver, sisters Ann and Bernie and daughter in law Doris; and is survived by his sons Paul, Vincent, John, Brendan and Peter, daughter Ann, daughters in law Trudy, Irene, Jean, Paula, son in law James, brothers Paddy, Con, Noel, Joe, Canice, sisters Cait, Jean and Mary, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a wide circle of friends.

His remains arrive at St Mary's Church, Navan on Friday morning for Funeral Mass at 10.30am, followed by burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. House strictly private please. Family flowers only.
