Clonmellon brightens up its streetscape
Under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme 2019, Clonmellon Steering Group and Community Council were successful in an application for funding to make substantial improvements to the village.
The purpose of the Scheme is to enhance the Main Street with a view to improving the commercial, heritage and tourism viability of the village.
As a result of the pandemic, the project could not proceed and it took until March 2021 before the committee could go to tender for the painting of the streetscape. The tender was won by Delvin painting contractors, Brothers of the Brush.
The committee engaged Shelly Lodge, colour consultant, and a palette of colours was chosen. Property owners chose their own colours to enhance the buildings.
The painting project took approximately six weeks and is now completed, and the result is a refreshed, bright and cheerful streetscape.
The next phase of the project will provide for street furniture, including benches on the main street and new signs at the entrances to the village and at the Market Square, new road markings, upgrade of footpaths and improving parking areas.
Thanks to Janine Bartley and Paula Coonan for all the volunteer hours over the last few months and their commitment in getting this project over the line.
The committee would also like to thank Westmeath County Council, the Department of Rural and Community Development, Brothers of the Brush and Shelly Lodge.
