Tara Mines mentoring students at Beaufort College

Beaufort College in Navan and Tara Mines have a continued a valuable partnership since 2005, in the Business in the Community initiative.

The Student Mentoring Programme provides students with a mentor from the world of work and an additional support to help a student through the final years of school. This two-year programme links up Beaufort College senior students with a one on one mentor from Tara Mines, where they work together, in person and virtually to discuss career ideas, help investigate career paths, work on skill development, CVs and mock interviews.

This programme is currently in its second year in Beaufort College and has proven to be an excellent assets to the students with opportunities to communicate on an adult level with professionals in the working world, develop an awareness of the workplace and improves social and communication skills.

Connecting with an adult role model is hugely important for developing students’ self-esteem and their ability to improve social and communication skills by building relationships with diverse people in the working world.

This summer, Boliden Tara Mines very kindly sponsored a new set of school soccer jerseys. Beaufort College are extremely grateful for this generous donation and recognise the valuable community partnership link with Tara Mines.

A framed jersey was presented to Tara Mines representative Katie Burke and Business in the Community representative Kate Horton, by principal Ken Flynn and teacher, Sean Hughes at a recent programme relaunch in Beaufort College, to recognise the valuable relationship between the community and school.

"As a school we are delighted to be able to welcome the volunteers from Tara Mines to meet the students who they have been working closely with online over the past year, and we look forward to progressing into our second year of this excellent programme," Sean Hughes stated.
