Dumping incident in Broomfield angers residents

A DUMPING incident at Hungry Hall Park, Broomfield on Thursday or Friday has been described as “disappointing, disturbing and disgusting” by local residents.

A large mound of rubbish was dumped in the award-winning park, which is just south of Collon, late on Thursday night, or early Friday morning.

“Hungry Hall Park is the property of Meath County Council, and has been maintained by the Broomfield and District Residents Association since 1986, when the first Clean Up Meath Campaign took place,” says association secretary, Gerard Weldon.

“The Park never looked better than now, and it was disappointing, disturbing and disgusting to see what happened with this latest dumping incident.”

Mr Weldon has written to Meath County Council CEO, Jackie Maguire to compliment the Council's Environment Section and in particular Alan Nolan, Community Warden for his swift action in dealing with the incident “in record time.”.

“Alan first became aware of the incident when I advised him while collecting trees at Buvinda House on Friday morning,” said Mr Weldon.

“The dumping incident took place sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning, I suspect during the hours of darkness. Alan was made aware of the incident at 11am, was at Hungry Hall Park at 1pm, organised a lorry and digger, and had the significant dump (right) cleaned up, and was gone by 3pm. He was ably assisted by others on the day.

“This was an excellent response by any standard, and one that should be highlighted. I, on behalf of Broomfield and District Residents Association and the Community of Broomfield and District wish to offer our sincere thanks to Alan and all involved in this record clean-up.

“Well done to all involved,” he said.
