5 Sporting Meath Moments that made us smile...and shed a tear
* MEATH LADIES - What a year it was the Meath ladies football team as they overcame all the odds to win the Ladies All-Ireland SFC title, staging an incredible comeback against Cork in the semi-final before defeating hot favourites Dublin in the final on an unforgettable September day in Croke Park.
* KEANE EDGE - The talented Trim man dominated the race for the 2021 jockeys' championship since the flat action began in March and in October at the Curragh he set a new record with his 127th winner of the season.
* TONES ON SONG - Few would have predicted the Tones would claim the Keegan Cup in 2021 but that's what they did. With a the help of a Saran O Fionnagain goal Micheal McDermott's men defeated fancied Dunboyne 1-9 to 0-9 in the final to complete a memorable campaign for them.
* MAJOR WIN FOR MIN0RS - There was All-Ireland glory for the young footballers of Meath when they won the All-Ireland MFC in late August, defeating Tyrone 1-12 to 1-11 with St Colmcille's player Shaun Leonard popping up to score the late, dramatic winning point. It was a memorable day all round for the young Royals with Liam Kelly claiming the 'Player of the Match' award.
* NATIONAL JOY - Meath trainer Dermot McLoughlin chalked up a huge victory for him and his yard when Freewheelin' Dylan won the Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse in April with Ricky Doyle on board. It was a treasured moment too for owner Sheila Mangan who lives near Ashbourne.
