Move to Wigan a new chance to shine for Meath player

Months of speculation ended when it was confirmed that Jaime McGrath was moving to Wigan Athletic.

No doubt the player himself is greatly relieved all the speculation is over and his immediate future secured.

In recent weeks his form at dipped at St Mirren and it was believed it was due to the fact so many rumours circulated about him as to where he was going.

McGrath had been linked with a number of clubs over the past few months - but he has opted to join Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee and a two-year contract.

He will be linking up with other Irish internationals James McClean and Will Keane as the League One club seeks to clinch promotion to the Championship.

Leaving St Mirren will not be easy for the Athboy man as he made a huge impression there since moving from Dundalk. He was clearly happy there and hugely popular among the following.

He scored 17 goals for the Buddies last season and was voted the club's 'Player of the Season' by the supporters who clearly took McGrath to their hearts.

It was with St Mirren McGrath won his six Republic of Ireland caps and if Wigan get promoted to the championship it will surely do the Meathman's hopes of adding to that collection no harm.
