Change of use for Kingscourt Railway Station buildings
Cavan County council has granted permission for a change of use of the existing railway station buildings in Kingscourt.
Kingscourt Community Development Association successfully applied to the planning department of the local authority for the change of use of the buildings to educational purposes on a five-year temporary basis and all associated site works. The buildings are within the curtilage of a protected structure.
The application was almost one year in the planning system as significant further information and revised plans were submitted on the property located at Corgarry, Kingscourt, Cavan.
The planning file contains a letter from CIÉ and Iarnród Éireann granting consent to the proposed change of use of the property subject to a legal agreement with the local authority.
An extensive email on the proposal objecting to the plans was submitted by Bridget Martin. In her submission, the objector says locating an educational facility in the station, which is three miles outside the town, would be very “isolating” for the students.
The objector described the application as “vague” and contends it “does not inform the community of what exactly its intentions are”.
The decision to grant permission may be appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
