Upgrade works for Ráth Chairn school

Coláiste Pobail Ráth Chairn has been approved for upgrade works by the Department of Education.

The works envisaged will improve the fabric, comfort and thermal efficiency of the building.

Principal, Róisín Ní Dhúshláine said: “These upgrade works will improve the entire school environment from a teaching and learning perspective, providing better ventilation, heat retention and overall comfort for students and staff of the school.”

The announcement follows representations made by LMETB’s chief executive Martin O’ Brien and LMETB’s buildings officer Sinéad Murphy to the Planning and Buildings Unit of the Department of Education.

The principal says that she is very pleased, with the commitment of LMETB to the development of Coláiste Pobail Ráth Chairn and proud of the LMETB’s support for the language and for the whole school community.

“I am delighted that over the last two years the community has responded to the changes made at the school with improved enrolment from the local primary schools.”

Chief Executive, Martin O’ Brien, says that the development of Coláiste Pobail Ráth Chairn is a key priority for him and has set the Principal the challenge of increasing enrolment to 500 students. He believes that the location of the school, in the Gaeltacht area of Ráth Chairn, is of huge advantage and that with school improvements like, Meath will see the Irish-language secondary school it deserves.

LMETB’s buildings officer, Sinéad Murphy says she is very pleased with this announcement as this project will provide an improved comfortable learning environment for staff and students while also improving the energy efficiency of the building which in turn will assist LMETB in reaching its climate targets as a public body.

Coláiste Pobail Ráth Chairn provides Irish-language education to students from all over the county, from the Gaelscoileanna and from English-medium primary schools. It is a rural school situated on a spacious five-acre site in Ráth Chairn.
