They had already gone where no team from Meath had gone before when they won the All-Ireland title last September and they did it again on Sunday conquering new frontiers by winning the NFL Division 1 title for the first time in the county's history.

And just like last September, Meath served up large dollops of drama and undiluted, high-quality entertainment on their way to the stars. They dominated the early stages of the game, rocketing into a commanding lead before losing their way somewhat.

They were a point behind early in the second-half before reclaiming the lead with the help of a goal from Niamh O'Sullivan. Donegal had their chances as the game drew to a tension-filled conclusion. The contest could have gone either way but Eamonn Murray's side stayed in front this time to claim another trophy on yet another memorable day for ladies football in the Royal County. The glory days continue.

Last weekend also proved memorable for Navan woman Sam Monaghan who helped Ireland achieve a big win over Italy in the Women's Six Nations, and was named player of the match. Monaghan had won an All-Ireland u-16 medal for Meath in 2009 under Eamonn Murray.

She moved to Brighton a few years ago and started playing rugby. Within a year, Monaghan was taking rugby seriously and that led to her signing for top English team Wasps.
