GAA Round-up: Goals help Gaels to victory over close rivals

The concession of three goals cost Navan O'Mahonys dearly as they lost out to Simonstown Gael in this A FL Div 1A encounter last evening with the tie also doubling as a contest for the Heaney Cup.
An indication of the challenge O'Mahonys faced could be seen in the way Simonstown led 1-7 to 0-6 at the break.
O'Mahonys also spurned some good scoring opportunities in that opening moiety and with the Gaels adding two more goals in the second-half they pushed on to win. Jake Regan showed the way for O'Mahonys with eight points. James O'Reilly, Clayton O'Sullivan, Louis Collins, Brian O'Hanlon, Paddy Dillon and Eoin Joyce also contributed scores to O'Mahonys' tally.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne made the trip to Summerhill and returned home with a deserved if hard-earned victory in the A FL Div 1A last evening. It wasn't looking too promising for the visitors at the break as they trailed 1-4 to 1-6 and it could have been worse only for Andy Colgan who made a fine save.
The Donaghmore/Ashbourne goal was scored by Evan Quinn with Leo Reilly and Stephen Carton involved in the build up. While they trailed at the break Donaghmore/Ashbourne upped their game considerably in the second-half and ran out winners.
Carton registered four points over the hour while Dylan Brady, Jamie Browne, Reilly, Kevin Cully and Ethan Tormey also worked scores.

At their fifth attempt Moynalvey picked up their first victory in the A FL Div 1B when they defeated Curragh at Moynalvey last evening. Ahead by 0-6 to 0-5 at the break John Donoghue's side were able to push on and secure a badly needed victory.
Donal Smith, Fearghal McCabe, Vinny Walsh and Ciaran Harnan each registered two points for the winners while Anthony Forde, Darren Brennan, Conor Shirren and Sean Duggan were others to contribute scores to the cause.
While they only trailed by a point at the break Curraha were unable to get the better of their opponents even though they fashioned the only goal of the game when Sean Keogh delivered a pass to Gavin Coyle who netted with a superb effort. Conor Moriarty finished with four points for Curraha while Keogh, Andrew Coyle and Gavin Coyle also bagged scores for the visitors.
Moynalvey had good performances from Cathal McCabe, Smith, Fearghal McCabe, Shirren and Walsh. Round six sees Moynalvey make the long journey to Oldcastle next Tuesday evening.
