Primary Schools Finals: Double up for Bohermeen as impressive winners hold on
GIRLS DIV 2 Tight contest went right to the wire
The girls from Bohermeen NS completed a famous double for their school when they added the Girls Div 2 title with a 3-9 to 2-5 win to their boy's team's earlier success at Pairc Tailteann on Friday.
The opening exchanges of this final were a mile-a-minute as both sides produced high quality football throughout.
Ellie Brennan opened the scoring for Bohermeen after 90 seconds and a minute later Yellow Furze were level as Anna Donnelly pointed after her initial effort was brilliantly saved by Chloe English.
Tanya Finnegan edged Yellow Furze ahead in the seventh minute following a good run and two minutes later Susan Finegan fired over from a narrow angle to make it 0-3 to 0-1.
However, then Bohermeen took control.
Captain Emily O'Brien cut the deficit with a huge point from distance and a spectacular brace of points from Molly O'Brien edged Boheermen in front for the second time.
That lead was stretched to 1-4 to 0-3 when Brennan produced a brilliant turn and an equally emphatic finish from distance to find the roof of the net.
Leanna Coyne showed tremendous pace to stretch Bohermeen's lead and just before the break Bohermeen added their second goal.
Caitlin Gallagher did brilliantly to touch Brennan's deflected shot onto the crossbar, but from the resultant '35' Eleanor Fallon landed her delivery direct to the net to ensure a 2-5 to 0-3 interval lead.
As the heavy rain started to fall it took both sides a while to settle again, but once they found their feet it was Bohermeen who took a giant step to the title when Molly O'Brien fired a brilliant goal.Yellow Furze's response was impressive as the dangerous Donnelly replied with a point before Sorcha Lawlor made it 1-4 to 3-5 when she gathered a loose ball and arrowed to the net.
Feeling the pressure Bohermeen responded with points from Molly O'Brien and substitute Ella Weldon.
However Donnelly kept Yellow Furze in the game with a stunning goal to close the gap to six points, 2-4 to 3-7, with nine minutes remaining.
A brilliant run by Leanna Coyne settled Bohermeen again and 90 seconds later another substitute Kyla Coyne added a point to put daylight between the sides.
Donnelly did pull a point back for Yellow Furze, but it was Bohermeen who held on to complete the remarkable double.
