McEntee set for swift return to management

Former Meath manager Andy McEntee looks set to be named as the new manager of the Antrim senior footballers after his nomination was approved by the Co Board.

McEntee is expected to be ratified by the clubs this evening and he will replace Tyrone's Enda McGinley who stepped down after Antrim's Tailteann Cup loss to Leitrim.

McEntee, who had suggested recently that he will take a break from management, opted not to seek another term as Meath boss following the Royals' exit from the championship at the hands of Clare in the All-Ireland SFC qualifier.

The former Ballyboden St Enda's All-Ireland Club SFC winning manager will take over an Antrim side that has been on an upward trajectory in recent years after gaining promotion from Division 4 under McGinley.

Seeking promotion to Division 2 will be McEntee's first aim, while also making the team more competitive in Ulster - they lost to Cavan by 13 points in their only provincial outing in April.
