Tributes paid at passing of Virginia Show president

Mr Farrelly was also a stalwart member of Ramor Utd GFC.

Tributes have been paid following death of Virginia Agricultural Show Society past president, Sean Farrelly.

Mr Farrelly, of Clear View House, Drumgora, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 16, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

His family were among the founding members of the Virginia Agricultural Show Society.

A past Virginia Show Society President himself, Mr Farrelly served in a number of other senior committee roles down through the years.

Mr Farrelly was among those who played a key role in the development of the current Virginia Show complex financed by the Cavan-Monaghan LEADER company to the tune of €500,000, with matched funding raised by the local groups own membership - mainly local farmers and businesses.

“The Rock”, as he was nicknamed on the pitch, Mr Farrelly was also a stalwart member of Ramor Utd GFC.

He holds, the club said in a post shared on social media, the distinction of being the only player to win a Senior Championship with both Virginia Blues (62) and Ramor United (74), along with an Intermediate again with ‘The Blues’ in 1975.

Predeceased by his beloved wife Kay, Mr Farrelly’s death is mourned by his sons and daughters, Anthony, Yvonne, Joan, Orla, Emer, John and Aine, sons in law Sean, Gerry, Martin, Brendan and Daithi, daughters in law Vivienne and Maggie, his cherished grandchildren, his brother P J , sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later stage.
