Tenders for Virginia bypass

The council has is seeking to appoint Archaeological Consultancy Services to assist in delivering a geophysical survey in relation to the proposed N3 Virginia bypass scheme.

Tenders were issued last week, with interested parties required to have skills in carrying out geophysical surveys of archaeological sites, topographical surveys, and associated archaeological services.

The deadline for submissions is later this month, October 25.

Cavan County Council previously advertised for interested parties to carry out topographical surveys.

It says surveying of roads, watercourses, ground truthing and river floodplains will need to be carried out under the contract. Detailed mapping and CAD models will then be generated.

The data gathered in the survey will feed into the planning and design of the new road, which has been underway for a number of years.

The preferred route corridor was published late last year. It would see the new bypass built to the north of Virginia, running from Whitegate to Lisgrey.
