Council urging people of Meath to get behind Púca Festival

As Athboy and Trim gear up for the Púca Festival, Trim councillors spoke of the huge opportunity it represents for both towns and their hope that the entire community would buy in and support the events.

Director of Services Des Foley said a huge amount of work was being done by Fáilte Ireland who wanted to establish Ireland as the home of Halloween and said it was being widely marketed.

"We need the local community and groups and businesses to get involved. There is a real opportunity to build on it for further years. It can become a permanent festival and Trim and Athboy would become known as where Púca happens," said Mr Foley.

He added that ticket sales were going well and with a couple of days left they needed to push hard and he encouraged local councillors to promote the event on their social media.

"The programme is action packed, there are so many events, for families and children of all ages. We hope weather will be kind and it can be a great success."

Cllr Ronan Moore said he had friends in Dublin who were asking him about the festival going on in Trim and Athboy. "I've seen it on Dublin buses. It has a reached another level in terms of people's awareness, and this is on our doorstep. The quality of activities is really impressive," he said adding that they would do whatever they could to promote it.
