Funeral details announced for late bus driver Michael Gill
The funeral of Michael Gill, the bus driver who died tragically following an accident between Athlone and Moate on Wednesday evening, will take place in his native village of Kenagh, in Longford, on Monday.
The married father of six, who was aged in his mid-50s, died at Tullamore hospital after a Bus Éireann bus he had been driving left the road at Killogeenaghan, on the R446 between Athlone and Moate.
The incident resulted in some of the 18 passengers on board sustaining injuries that were not life-threatening.
Mr Gill, who had been working for Bus Éireann from its Athlone depot, was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Bridget, and infant brother Patrick.
His death notice stated that he will be "forever missed by his heartbroken family, his beloved wife Mary, sons John, Alan, Kevin and Kieran, daughters Rinoa and Sara, mother-in-law Kathleen, brothers-in-law Gerard, Kieran and Martyn, sister-in-law Deirdre, nephews and nieces Shauna, Darragh, Tara, Darian, Oscar and Harvey, dear cousins, neighbours, good friends and his work colleagues."
Mr Gill will be reposing at Connell's Funeral Home in Longford this Sunday, from 2-4pm, and the funeral cortege will leave his home on Monday at 10.30am.
It will arrive to St Dominic's Church, Kenagh, for Funeral Mass at 11am, followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan, at 3pm.
Family flowers only are requested with donations, if desired, to St Luke's Hospital in Dublin. The family has asked that their home be private at all times, please.
Local councillor Colm Murray paid tribute to Mr Gill, describing him as a person "everybody knew and everybody liked" in Kenagh.
May he rest in peace.
