Death of horse trainer and huntsman, Andy Lynch

The death has occurred of the horse trainer, Andy Lynch of Dunsany, aged 76.

The Dunshauglin native was travelling head lad at Noel Meade's Tu Va stables for decades, and was also whipper-in with the Ward Union Hunt, originally joining them in 1964.

With his late wife, May, Fr Andy Doyle, then curate in Dunsany, and the late Rosemary Swan of Kilmessan, he was one of the main movers behind the Dunsany Cross Country Chase, a fundraiser for the community and parish which ran for over 20 years.

The Lagore native won an junior championship medal with Dunshaughlin in 1967, and went on to be a chairman and selector with Dunsany Ladies GFC during their glory years in the 1990s.

He also competed successfully at showjumping in the RDS.

Andy began his career with horses with the late Dan Moore's stable at Fairyhouse, and went to Noel Meade's in 1985. When he left Tu Va Stables, he enjoyed success training for Chris Jones at Killeen Glebe, as well as for other owners.

Andy is granduncle to jockey Keith Donoghue, Dunshaughlin.

Predeceased in 2007 by his wife, May (Reilly), he is survived by his family, Ann, Sandra, Patrick, Margaret, Andrew and Michael, grandchildren, great grandchild, brother, Anthony, extended family, relatives and friends. Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised.

He is reposing at his home from 11am on Friday. Funeral Mass on Saturday at 2pm in the Church of the Assumption, Dunsany followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. Flowers or donations welcome.
