Meath GAA apologise for offensive tweet
Meath GAA have this morning confirmed that the person responsible for the controversial tweet posted on the their official twitter account yesterday has been removed from the Public Relations committee.
The tweet, which was posted in reply to Offaly GAA's full-time score from their NHL Div 2A victory over Down in Ballycran, described the venue as "a kip" and suggested that "no inter county matches should be played in that place".
An investigation began as soon as tweet was deleted shortly after it was originally posted and Meath GAA issued an statement.
"Coiste na Mí CLG are aware of an offensive tweet coming from our Twitter account this afternoon. This tweet in no way reflects the views of Coiste na Mí CLG.
"A full investigation of how the tweet was posted commenced in the aftermath of the tweet and is currently underway.
"We have been in contact with the Down County Board apologising for the tweet which was deleted as soon as we became aware of it."
After an investigation newly appointed PRO Brian Kelly issued a statement revealing that the person responsible for the tweet was a member of the PR team, but has been relieved of their role.
"Following an investigation in relation to an offensive tweet posted on the Meath GAA Twitter account, a member of the Public Relations team has this morning accepted responsibility for posting the tweet.
Coiste na Mí CLG. can confirm that this person is no longer a member of the Public Relations team.
"We apologise once again for the offence caused by the tweet," said Kelly.
