Fr Murphy athletes sparkle in Gowran

Some measure of the depth of talent currently to be found at Fr Murphy AC was underlined at the National Intermediate, Masters and Juvenile B Cross-Country Championships that took place in Gowran last weekend.

A a number of young athletes from the club travelled to the championships and excelled returning home with coveted medals that were hard earned.

In the u-11 girls age group Pearl Keogh competed with 136 girls in her event and was placed eighth. Pearl was the only Meath athlete in the 1,000m race and she displayed the consistency and power needed to stay the course and claim the medal.

In the boys u-15 Jack Moran ran with 74 boys and put in very strong performance to cross the line in 11th place with his strength and consistency helping him to medal.

There was success also for a Fr Murphy athlete in the girls u-17 event with Sinead Farrell (who is only 15) doing extremely will.

Sinead made light of the fact that she was competing against girls older than here. She put in a powerful, sustained run and secured ninth position.

All three athletes participated in Leinster and National events last year and performed very well but didn’t get medals so their success in Gowran indicated great progress in their respective careers.
