Trim Celtic manager Robbie Horgan.

Horgan hails his Trim side after Leinster Junior Cup win over local rivals

Manager Trim Celtic Robbie Horgan was happy to see his team take control of Sunday's game and push on to win but it took a considerable turnaround by his troops in the second-half before victory could be secured.

"Derby games are never going to be pretty and Parkvilla were on top in the first half, it was great to get the lads in at half-time 0-0," he said after all the action was over.

"I spoke with the boy’s in the dressing room, the conditions were tough, the pitch was a little bit sticky and then there was the wind. I wanted the lads to show patience and composure, and in the second half that’s what they did. I knew if we did this then everything would be ok."

Horgan had to plan without a number of regulars but others stepped up to the plate and made vital contributions.

“I was happy to get the result against a good Parkvilla Team. I’m grateful we got through today, we were missing many players through suspensions, ineligible and injuries and now we are in the hat for the next round."

The Trim Celtic boss reflected on Dean Courtney's goal that finally broke the deadlock.

"It was always going to take a goal like that to break the deadlock, he executed it well. It was a game that whoever scored first would go on to win the game."

PARKVILLA MANAGER

Parkvilla's Ken Ratty felt his team had played well enough to lead at the interval bemoaning chances that went a-begging.

"We knew coming over here was always going to be tough, we lost a few players and we were missing a good few as well.

"In the first half we had the better chances and were unlucky not to go in 1-0 up at half-time. Their 'keeper made a great save from Tristan O’Neill in the first few minutes."

Ratty felt the fitness levels between the two sides was a big factor in finally deciding the outcome between these two local rivals.

"Trim were much fitter as they have played all the way through Christmas to now, we are just not there yet in our own fitness levels. We will get back to training and be ready for the Kilmessan Shield in two weeks time," he added.
