Athboy CU provide vital backing for local Celts

Sponsors are vital in sport, everybody knows that and Athboy Celtic's senior teams recently received support from a local business outlet - support that really counts.

They will be backed by the Athboy Credit Union and the general manager of the Athboy CU Nick Murphy met up with the coaches of various teams at Athboy Celtic FC to officially announce the sponsorship.

These are exciting days for the Celts. Last summer the club celebrated its 40th anniversary with a weekend of events including a reunion of former players.

"It was a fun-filled night with lots of photos and a superb booklet produced for the occasion by the current committee," said Bernard O'Byrne, the club chairman.

The following day a large crowd gathered for the official opening of the club's new dressingrooms with the ribbon cut by Republic of Ireland international Jamie McGrath who started his career with the club.

Every club needs support of one kind or another and Athboy CU have stepped in to give their back to the club who field a range of teams at underage and adult levels.
