Kentstown Rovers, when they won the Challenge Cup in 2021, also had reason to celebrate after their big win over Athboy Celtic at the weekend.

Liverpool weren't the only team that hit a magnificent seven on Sunday. Kentstown Rovers did they same defeating Athboy Celtic 7-3 in the Kilmessan Shield.

The Rovers certainly kicked off their season in fine style at Paul Lenehan Memorial Park with the grounds looking fantastic after all the hard work of the committee over the past few months!

Kentstown took the lead when Colin Walsh hammered home from 25 yards out into the bottom right hand corner! 1-0.

Kentstown made it 2-0 when Leo Mendez played a lovely weighted through ball to Daire Walsh who cut in from wing before finishing well into the corner.

They made it 3-0 soon after when the Athboy keeper initially saved a good free kick but Daire Walsh was on hand to square the parred ball to Breno Paulista and he tapped home.

Kentstown made it 4-0 before the break when Craig Dixon cut a half volley from outside the box which flew into the net.

The home team started the second half slow and Athboy pulled two goals back inside the first 5minutes of the game with two well worked goals. 4-2

The next goal came 10 minutes later when Leo Mendez fired in a free kick from 35 yards out! 5-2 Baxter made it 6-2 with a brilliant header which left the Athboy keeper with no chance and Leo curled in another free kick to make it 7-2.

In the final few minutes Athboy pulled another goal back and the game finished out 7-3.
