Kells Road Racers Ride Out in spectacular parade
Park Ri in Kells was the meeting point on Sunday for Ireland's biggest motorcycle ride out organised by Kells Road Races which attracted up to 2,500 bikers from all over the country.
The event was organised as a fundraiser for Kells Road Races, and also to show the support there is for the motorcycle racing community.
Last year was the first year it was held and organisers were blown away but its success and this year's event was even bigger. Kells Road Races title sponsor is CC Unlimited and the club invited Christy Gilsenan to lead the ride out.
Diarmuid Corcoran of Kells Road Races told how club member Henry Vaughan came up with the idea."We wanted to fundraise and we wanted to see how much support is out there for the racing community.
It worked really well, we got great support and people really enjoyed it," said Diarmuid. Kells Road Races Club has thanked Park Rí for facilitiating the event, Eureka Secondary School for allowing their car park be used, and An Garda Siochana and Meath County Council.
Kells Road Races went ahead last year but this year's event, scheduled for 24th and 25th June remains in limbo due to insurance issues. Difficulties in getting cover as well as huge increases in insurance costs are casting doubt on road races generally with all races in Northern Ireland already cancelled.
A decision on whether the Kells event will go ahead in June, has not yet been made by the Motorcycle Union of Ireland. Photos: Adrian Crawley.
