Defending champions handed tough openers

Ratoath and Trim will open the defence of their Keegan and Jubilee Cups with games against Moynalvey and Kiltale respectively

Defending Keegan Cup champions Ratoath might well have contrasting emotions following tonight's draws for the Meath Football Championships after they were handed a relatively straightforward path to the quarter-finals.

Ratoath will open the defence of their SFC title with a game against Moynalvey, while they will also come up against St Colmcille's and Skryne in their other group games before the competition is whittled down to the last eight.

With a such a favourable draw for the group stages Ratoath might just coast into the knockout stages where they will face much stiffer challenges.

Last year's beaten senior finalists Summerhill once again find themselves in a daunting group with Gaeil Colmcille and Wolfe Tones, while the ever-improving and impressive Ballinabrackey complete the group.

IFC champions Dunshaughlin will return to the senior grade with an opening round game against Donaghmore/Ashbourne, while also in group A Na Fianna will take on Curraha.

The final group, group C, is another tough one with Simonstown set to open against Trim, while Sensechalstown will take on St Peter's Dunboyne.

Trim will open the defence of their Jubilee Cup with an opening round clash against Kiltale, while Kildalkey will take on Na Fianna and last year's finalists Ratoath will take on promoted Killyon.
