Enfield school building put out to tender

There was great news for Enfield Community College last week as the new school building went out to tender.

Tenders are being sought for the 1,000-student school, with a closing date of 14th July.

"It is great news. The money is obviously there now and it is all systems go," said principal, Shane Foley. "We are delighted."

There had been relief for parents, staff and students at Enfield earlier this month when Education Minister, Norma Foley confirmed the rollout and continuation of the Department's school building programme, which included new school buildings for Enfield Community College and O'Carolan College, Nobber as well as the Mercy Primary School in Navan.

Schools across the country had been left in limbo last month with the sudden announcement that the schools building programme was being stalled in relation to 58 projects including the three Meath schools

More money is being released by the Public Expenditure, National Development Plan Delivery and Reform to allow them to go ahead.

The new 1,000 pupil school will have its own PE hall and library as well as 37 general classrooms, six science labs and specialist multi-media rooms, art rooms, home-economics classes, construction and technology rooms, photography facilities, as well as four special education classrooms and a sensory garden. Facilities will also include outdoor sports facilities.
