Funeral to take place of Kingscourt crash victim
Tributes paid to ‘wonderful son’ and friend
The funeral is to take place of the young Monaghan man who died tragically following a motorcycle crash near Kingscourt last week.
Aaron Keenan lost his life in the single vehicle incident that occurred at approximately 8pm on Wednesday evening, April 26, at Cornakill on R165 between Kingscourt and Bailieborough.
He was just 22 years old at the time.
Mr Keenan, from Deery's Terrace, Inniskeen, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
He is survived by his parents Patrick and Jackie Keenan, brothers Anthony, Mark Christopher and Pauric, and sister Rachel, grandfather Oliver, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
Mr Keenan will be laid rest following Funeral Mass at the Church of Mary Mother of Mercy, Inniskeen at 11am on Monday last, May 1, with burial afterwards at St Mary's Cemetery.
His heartbroken father Patrick had paid tribute to his 'wonderful son' in a post shared on social media.
He wrote: 'When I thought we had been hit our hardest blow, last night we lost our wonderful son Aaron in a single vehicle motorbike accident.
'A young man of just 22 years of age taken way to soon, full of life and ambition, not just to improve his life but the life of all his family and friends in every way possible. Love you always Aaron, Dad’.
His older brother Anthony meanwhile shared: ‘So much to live for and gone in the blink of an eye. Say hello to nanny for us. Love you wee brother’.
Many others shared their sympathies with the Keenan family at this difficult time, describing the late Mr Keenan as a person with an ‘exceptional future ahead of him. Dedicated to his work and his family, the answer was always “yes” no matter what anyone asked of him’.
Another friend noted Mr Keenan’s lifelong passion for cars and motorbikes. ‘Buying them, selling them and playing in them’.
Anyone with a car or bike was welcomed to help form a convoy in travelling with Aaron’s remains from his home at Deery's Terrace to the Church of Mary Mother of Mercy on Monday.
Mr Keenan is the first person to lose their life on Cavan’s roads to date in 2023, and the third across the Cavan-Monaghan Garda Division.
In the wake of the accident gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward with information.
Gardai stated: 'Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the R165 between Kingscourt and Cornakill between the hours of 6:30pm and 8:30pm on Wednesday 26th April 2023 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí’.
