Nobber Show & Fair.... A day out for all the family!

Nobber Show and Fair Day returns to the north Meath village this Sunday, 21st May where visitors can enjoy all the fun of a traditional street fair as well a packed programme of events with something for everyone.

Throughout the day, there will be live music, demonstrations, vintage displays, rare breeds, market stalls, and arts and crafts, as well as a funfair.

In 2019, Nobber Vintage Club decided to expand their event to include a livestock show and while Covid scuppered events for the next two years, it returned again in 2022 and this year's event includes more classes and greater prize money.

The committee of Nobber Show and Fair Day has kept its admission at €10 and children under 12 free. Admission for students and OAPs is €5.

"There is so much to see and do, it really is great family day out and great value for money and we hope people will come out and support us. Any money we raise, goes back into the community," said Nobber Show and Fair chairperson, Henry Mulligan.

The headline music act this year is Johnny Brady and there will also be music by Gavin Gribben, Terrie Louise Duff, and Kingscourt Brass and Reed Band.

The Livestock Show will be taking place in the field beside the primary school throughout the day with dozens of sheep and cattle classes. The home industries section will be in a marquee at the amenity park.

Three cattle classes are All-Ireland qualifiers, and there are also All-Ireland qualifiers in bread-baking, and the domestic arts and junior crafts competition. Nobber Show will be the first show in Ireland to host a class specifically for Highland Cattle.

"We have a new website this year with details of all the classes and entries can be made online. Altogether we have a prize fund of €15,000 and the top classes in the cattle section carry a €2,000 prize," explained Henry.

Among the demonstrations will be tinsmiths, blacksmiths, bridle makers, and sheep shearing. Throughout the village there will be animal displays of horses, sheep, ponies and cattle and the Highland Cattle are always a big hit and will be returning again this year.

There will be a vintage and classic car display at the amenity park with a prize for the best turned out vehicle. The dog show takes place at 2.30pm.

Another event that is always popular is the Midget Car Racing which takes place beside the amusements at the bottom of the village. The local football club is running a sheep racing event and the pig on the spit will be on sale with proceeds going to Scoil Eoin Báiste.

Nobber Fire Service will do a demonstration at their newly opened fire station and people will have the chance to have a look around their fabulous new facility.

Putting on an event of this scale takes a huge amount of community effort and the committee has thanked the local football club, soccer club, fishing club and gun club for their help and everyone who volunteers to make the day such a success. They have also thanked their main sponsor College Proteins and their other sponsors for their support of the event.

More volunteers are always welcome and any extra help is appreciated. A reminder that the Navan to Kingscourt Road (R162) at Nobber will be closed from 9am to 7pm to facilitate the event and diversions will be in place.
