Man,30s, killed in Castletown farm accident named locally

A young father killed in a farming accident in the Castletown area yesterday has been named locally.

David McAteer who was in his 30s suffered fatal injuries in the accident that occurred yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating, and the local coroner has been notified.

It is understood that Mr McAteer was married with young children.

In a social media post Wilkinstown community centre voiced their sadness at the tragedy saying:

"It is with deepest sadness and a heavy heart that we write on the sudden and tragic loss of David McAteer. Our sincere condolences to the McAteer family, relatives and friends. Special thoughts and prayers to Zoe, Dáithí, Alannah & Tadgh.

"As a whole community, we would ask that you remember the family at this very difficult time."

Meanwhile taking to Facebook Scoil Naomh Barra Parents Association said:

"It is with deepest sadness that we send heartfelt condolences to Zoe, Dáithí, Alannah and Tadgh on the sudden passing of David. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

"We ask the wider school community to remember the McAteer family at this very sad and difficult time."

In a statement gardai said:

"Gardaí responded to reports of a workplace accident in the Castletown area of Meath shortly after 12.30pm yesterday afternoon, Tuesday, 20th June 2023. A man aged in his 30s suffered fatal injuries.

"The HSA and local coroner have been notified."
