Lego robots from Ratoath’s engineering young pupils

Pupils from St Paul's NS in Ratoath recently took part in the Education First Lego League Explore Showcase, at Dublin City University Institute of Education. They were among 85 teams of young engineers from four primary schools across Dublin and Meath who designed and built Lego robots at the showcase.

Each year, children aged seven-12 who take part in First Lego League Explore tackle a series of challenges and create an innovative solution to a real-world problem. This year’s 'Superpowered' theme saw young people explore the issues we face in the sourcing, distribution and consumption of energy and challenged them to develop innovative solutions while demonstrating their skills in robotics, computer programming, research, problem solving, teamwork and communication.

First Lego League is more than a robotics competition, says Ross Maguire of Learnit:“The concepts of cooperation and competition combine. It’s the idea that, by working together, we all win. FIRST LEGO League is a platform for students to discover the world of STEM and collaborate on real-world problems. These fantastic young people are taking the first steps to become tomorrow’s innovators, creators and problem solvers. Today is not about people building robots, it’s about robots building people.”
