Artist Seamus Smith unveils inspiring new work in Navan Hospital
A PAINTING by Navan artist, Seamus Smith, which was unveiled in the new Cirrus Rehab Unit at Our Lady's Hospital in Navan will serve as a real inspiration to clients of the unit.
The painting - 'The Sun and the Moon’, was painted by Seamus who taught himself to paint with his left hand, when he overcame a stroke 14 years ago.
The well known local artist had been right-handed but when he was no longer able to paint with his right hand, he didn't give up and learned to use his left.
Seamus was inspired to paint the picture when out walking in Gormanlough in early when 2021 when he saw a beautiful moon rising in the east, while the golden sun was setting in the east, casting long shadows over the landscape.
The painting was featured in an exhibition in 2021, which was attended by Dr Bill Bourke, who had been Seamus's doctor when he had the stroke.
Bill persuaded the Hospital to purchase the painting to have it exhibited in the Rehab unit where it will be a real inspiration to patients, overcoming difficulties like those Seamus experienced.
