CMAT's proud Mam delighted to see daughter headline at Otherside Festival
The proud mum of Dunboyne country pop star Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson CMAT says her daughter was "ecstatic" to headline Otherside festival in her home county at the weekend.
CMAT wowed the crowd at the three day festival at Rock Farm in Slane from friday to Sunday.
No stranger to the festival scene, the quirky songstress performed a critically acclaimed set at Glastonbury earlier this month.
But all eyes were on Slane on Saturday night and no more so than for Ciara Mary-Alice who moved to Dunboyne from Dublin at age 9 according to mum Sinead Lanigan.
“It is such a special gig because it is in meath where she grew up. I live in Clonee now so the meath connection is still going strong! "she said.
Sinead said it was a teacher in Dunboyne College of Further Education that spotted the potential in the music star.
“She played the tin whistle in primary school and she was always singing, Ciara was singing before she could talk.
“In Dunboyne she had a fantastic music teacher, Pat Morris and she just shone from there. a lot of her confidence grew with Pat Morris.
“She is also brilliant at english, she is an a honours student so she has the ability to write and that has a lot to do as to why she has done so well. “
The proud mum remembers an early indication that her daughter was destined for life in the spotlight when Ciara volunteerd to be the red hen in a primary school production of An Chircín Rua.
“She danced around the stage at the age of six and she was in her element!
"I think if she wasn’t a singer she would be an actress!”
Sinead decided to sport a t shirt with the words I’m CMAT’s mam printed on it to watch her daughter perform so no one was in doubt as to who her mother was!
“ I got this t shirt when I went to see her at Malahide Castle because everywhere I go, people say to me oh my god she is brilliant, and i say do you think so, I’m her mam!
“I’m so proud she has done really well."
