Funerals of Clones girls following tragic car accident on debs night

The funerals of the two girls who died in a car crash on debs night in neighbouring County Monaghan last Monday will take place today.

Best friends Kiea McCann (17) and Dlava Mohamed (16) will be laid to rest in Clones, Co Monaghan, and Newcastle in Dublin.

The Largy College students lost their lives when the car in which they were travelling left the N54 at around 6:45pm on Monday evening, July 31, and hit a tree.

The driver and another passenger of the vehicle remain in a critical condition in hospitals in Cavan and Belfast; while another young male passenger is recovering.

All four passengers were students of Largy College on their way to Clones to celebrate debs night with their friends.

A family liaison officer has been appointed to each family and gardaí say their focus is on supporting the families and the community.

A garda investigation is ongoing. There have been a number of collisions on that particular stretch of road in the past and that is forming part of the garda investigation.

A senior investigating officer has also been appointed and an incident room has been set up at Monaghan Garda Station.

Kiea and her family lived at Fitzpatricks Square in Clones.

Her funeral procession will leave her family home today (Thursday) at 1.30pm approx, to arrive at Sacred Heart Chapel, Clones, for 2pm funeral Mass.

Kiea will be laid to rest in Mount St Oliver's Cemetery, Clones, afterwards. Her funeral Mass can be viewed on the following link: https://www.churchservices.tv/sacredheartclones

Kiea was predeceased by her brother Jason. She is survived by her heartbroken family - her mum Teresa, her father Franky, brothers and sisters; Brandon, Jentzen, Frankie, Michaela, Shauna, Shaunice, Tameaka, Tanisha, Amelia; her grandmothers Mary Ellen McCann and Anna Rose Flynn; her nephews Tadhg and Liam; her uncles and aunts, cousins and friends.

Kiea's best friend Dlava Mohamed lived with her family on The Diamond in Clones.

Dlava's funeral procession left her home at the Diamond Clones this morning at 6:45am to arrive at Clonskeagh Mosque & Culture Centre, 19 Roebuck Road, at 1:30pm for her Funeral Services.

Dlava will be laid to rest at 3pm in Newcastle Muslim Cemetery, Dublin.

Dlava was the daughter of Hohamed and Zenab Mohamed. She is survived by her brothers Mostafa and Rashid and her sisters Lilov, Asmahan, Auin and Giham.

Authorities have appealed for privacy for the grieving families.
