Scandinavian success for Eddie Maguire
Eddie Maguire who lives just outside Navan - and who formally played Gaelic football for Mayo, Carlow and Meath - achieved a very significant victory in his golfing career when he won the Scandinavian Open for blind and visually impaired golfers recently.
"It was most satisfying performance for some years as I shot a nett 68 on day one and a one under par 71, to clinch first place on the final day," commented Eddie.
He was guided by his 21-year-old grandson, Luke Greevey(Navan).
The field included golfers from several European countries as well as Canada and the USA.
"I was really surprised by the standard of golf by many golfers on the ultra difficult Sollentuna GC outside Stockholm. There was coverage from Swedish TV and radio," added Eddie.
His next major event will be the ISPS Handa Irish Open,at Mount Wolseley Golf Club.Tullow, Co Carlow in September.
