Plenty of SFC drama as Trim snatch late, late victory and Simonstown draw

It's not over until it's over. That certainly proved to be the case in the last two Group B games with plenty of late drama produced in both contests.

Trim left it until the last kick of their game with St Peter's Dunboyne at Summerhill to secure victory and book their ticket to the quarter-finals.

They trailed by a point when deep into injury time they launched a last attack. Ciaran Caulfield was fouled. Aaron Lynch launched the ball into the St Peter's goalmouth from the free. The ball broke and there was Declan Dowling to fire the ball home.

It was the last kick of the game and sent the Trim supporters into raptures of joy. Not only that the dramatic goal secured the team in red a 1-11 to 0-12 victory and a place in the knock-out stages.

The game was close throughout with Trim leading by 0-5 to 0-4 at the interval. However towards the end of game Dunboyne hit back hard and with the help of some sweetly taken points from Cathal Lacey they led - until Dowling's late intervention.

SCORERS

Trim - Aaron Lynch 0-5 three frees; Declan Dowling 1-0; Ciaran Caulfield 0-2; Tom Carmody 0-2; Daire Lynch 0-1; Sean Fitzgerald 0-1.

There was late drama in Pairc Tailteann also as group leaders Simonstown Gaels came from behind to snatch a draw with Seneschalstown (2-13 all).

It took a Padraig McKeever point from a free to rescue a draw for Simonstown in the seventh minute of added time.

Seneschalstown, who had lost their two previous games, looked like they would win this one when they led by two goals with 57 minutes on the clock.

The Gaels never know when they are beaten. Luke Caffrey scoring a goal late to give them hope and in the second minute of added time Shane Barry found the net before Ben Hoey pointed to tie up the teams.

Cathal Finnegan put Seneschalstown ahead before McKeever found an equaliser.
