High pressure bringing warm weather and sunny days

Weather update from Met Éireann

Warmer than average for the time of year. Predominately dry, especially away from the northwest, with high pressure dominating our weather. A mostly slack airflow will allow fog to develop during the nights and may be slow to clear during the mornings. That's the latest outlook from the national weather forecaster.

Low cloud, mist and fog in parts at first, clearing through this morning to leave a mix of cloud and sunny spells along with heavy, slow-moving showers, especially in the midlands, south and east with spot flooding possible. The showers will become more isolated later in the evening. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees in light northeasterly or variable breezes.

Becoming dry with clear spells early tonight as the showers die away. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees in light easterly or variable breezes, falling calm at times allowing widespread fog to develop.

A mostly dry day tomorrow (Saturday). Dull at first in places with areas of low cloud, mist and fog clearing in the morning to leave a day of sunny spells, turning hazier later, with just the chance of a few light showers. Highest temperatures of 19 to 22 degrees in light southerly or variable breezes.

Staying dry overnight on Saturday though some areas of fog will once again develop. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in mostly light southwesterly breezes, more moderate near Atlantic coasts.

Sunday is expected to be another largely dry day with good sunny spells. Some fog to start, particularly in the south, declining through the morning but once again persisting near some coasts. There is the chance of thicker cloud building in the northwest with a few spots of light rain or drizzle developing. Highest temperatures of 19 to 23 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

A dry night overnight on Sunday with a mix of cloud and clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 8 to 13 degrees. Areas of fog will form in mainly light southerly or variable breezes.

Some fog in the morning on Monday, continuing through the day near some coasts. Otherwise it will be a dry and mild day with plenty of sunshine. Highest temperatures of 21 to 24 or 25 degrees in light southeast to east or variable breezes.

Mild and humid overnight Monday. Mostly dry though more fog will develop and there is the chance of some heavy showers pushing up from the south towards morning.

Fog will be quicker to clear on Tuesday than previous mornings as more moderate easterly winds develop. Good spells of sunshine are expected though there is the chance of some heavy or thundery showers. Highest temperatures of 20 to 24 degrees generally.

Further Outlook: A good deal of uncertainty in the further outlook but current indications suggest that high pressure will gradually decline eastwards allowing for some rain or showers to move in.

Temperatures continuing to reach the low to mid-twenties generally.
