Mullagh’s Double Gold Medal Winner in Para PowerLifting World Championship honoured at Park Ri reception

Casey Fitzgerald, Mullagh’s Gold Medal Winner in Para Powerlifting World Championship was honoured at a reception in Park Ri Kells on Friday evening.

At the championships which was held in Dubai last month Casey won gold medals in two categories, her weight category of under 73kg in new generation category and over and for overall weight lifted.

Joined by her family, friend and her coach Bryan Foy, Club Active, Kells at the reception, Casey showed her many medals won in Dubai as well as a host of medals she won in her first ever para powerlifting competition, the Irish National Championships, held in Clontarf in November last.

Speaking at the reception, Micheál McKeon, Managing Director of Park Ri Kells said, “I congratulate Casey on the fabulous success she has had to date in her sport. At just 17, Casey is an inspiration to us all and has demonstrated that hard work pays off. The team here in Park Ri Kells were delighted to support Casey in her travels to Dubai to compete in the Para Powerlifting Championships this August and we are very proud of her achievement of coming home with 2 gold medals. We wish Casey every success in her bid to secure a place in the Ireland Team to travel to the Paralympics in Paris in 2024”.

Caseys Mum, Tracey spoke at the event expressing how proud she was of what Casey has achieved to date and she thanked Park Ri Kells and all those who have supported Casey in her sports career so far.

Casey thanked Bryan, for preparing her well so that she won two gold medals at that worlds and she said she looked forward to training in Club Active in preparation for her bid for a place on team Ireland at the Paralympics Paris 2024.

17 year old Casey has been para powerlifting since late 2021 and with all the hard work she's put into the sport, she has achieved so much already.

In the para powerlifting nationals last year she secured three gold medals, one silver medal and a personal best 60kg.

Since her international debut in Dubai, Casey is currently no.23 in the world.

Next for Casey is the National Para Powerlifting Championships this November in Dublin. She will then return to Dubai again in February and then to Manchester where she will hopefully qualify for the Paris Paralympics 2024.
