Seneschalstown record big win over Trim

Shane Mulvaney

Seneschalstown qualified for the Kepak Junior C FC semi-final with a 5-17 to 0-14 victory over a gallant Trim side in Fr Tully Park on Sunday.

Early exchanges were even in this encounter with the home team leading 0-2 to 0-1 after the first six minutes with Ruth Commons knocking over two early frees.

While the next 10 minutes was to prove very fruitful on the scoreboard for the home side, they also lost a couple of players to injuries. Kelly Smith got the ball rolling with the first goal which was soon followed up by a fine Commons point.

The game was held up then for a few minutes when Zoe Kirwan, only back from an arm injury, received treatment on a leg injury which forced her off to be replaced by Katie Geraghty.

Chloe Williams then got on the scoresheet followed by another Commons score. Midfielder Ali Finnegan then had to depart the fray injured to be replaced by Niamh Mulvany.

Smith added another point from play and soon afterwards intercepted the Trim kick out before setting up Katie Geraghty to get the Furze girls second goal on 16 minutes. On the run into the break Smith, Geraghty (2) and Caoimhe Clarke knocked over points from play with the Trim side also getting 3 points to leave the score 2-10 to 0-4 at the break.

When the second half resumed and Irish weather now showing its unpleasant side, it was Trim who got the ball rolling on the scoreboard. Kelly Smith replied with a point before Trim knocked over another point.

The next two scores for the home team were goals by half time substitute Ava Jane Ryan with two cracking finishes in the 35th and 38th minutes. Another point from Commons was soon followed by Geraghty’s second goal before Lucy Lynch opened her account as Seneschalstown management emptied the bench.

The Trim side never gave up and tagged on the next 4 points without reply before midfielder Darcey Kilfeather got in on the scoring act with a point from play for the home side. In the final five minutes points from Ryan, Holly Knowles and Aoife Lenehan completed

the scoring as Seneschalstown advanced to meet Na Fianna in the semi-final next weekend this Sunday, 1st October in Baconstown at 2pm.

Well done to the team and management and all involved in getting to the semi-final.
