Meath Co Council has spent €562m on major capital projects since 2019

During a presentation on Meath Co Council's forthcoming Capital Investment Programme, Head of Finance Sheila Harkin also outlined details of capital spending over the lifetime of the current council.

She told how from cumulative spending of €562m from 2019 to date was spent in the capital budget. The largest proportion of €266m went on housing which included housing construction, acquisition, energy upgrades and the retrofitting programme.

A total of €102m went on transportation including projects such as the Farganstown to Metges Road, Ratoath Outer Relief Road, the Cantilever Bridge in Navan, The Boyne Valley to Lakeslands Greenway, Royal Canal Greenway, Navan 2030, the R154 in Kiltale, Laytown Park and Ride, R150 Spine Road in Bettystown, Ashbourne Main Street, Tara na Rí Park and Ride, Kilberry Traffic Management, N51 Dunmoe Realignment.

Some €4.7m was spent on upgrading footpaths, €2.3m on housing estate roads, and €1.6m on public lighting.

A sum of €18.5m was spent on civic buildings, including extensions, upgrades, retrofitting, and energy enhancement works.

New builds including the Swift Cultural Centre and the new civil defence headquarters came in at €13.3m.

A total of 6.6m on was spent on parks, playgrounds and open spaces, while €1.2m was spent on swimming pools in Navan and Kells, including an energy retrofit.
