Gardai warn motorists about illegal parking ahead of hurling county finals

A warning has been issued to motorists who park illegally in the vicinity of Pairc Tailteann in Navan this weekend that Gardai will be issuing tickets for parking offences.

Gardai say a "significant" number of fixed charge penalty notices were handed out last weekend for parking offences largely in residential areas around Pairc Tailteann where the football county finals were taking place and are asking people attending this weekend's matches to be mindful of residents and to ensure access is maintained, particularly emergency access.

The official car park at Pairc Tailteann was full last Sunday and many motorists turned to residential areas to park, at times blocking entrances and several cars also parked on footpaths and green areas.

The Meath Chronicle has also previously highlighted parking issues in Emmet Terrace on match days where residents have been unable to access their homes.

Inspector Alan Roughneen of Navan Garda Station is asking those attending matches this weekend to use official parking facilities and said there are several around the town if the one at Pairc Tailteann is full.

He said it is particularly important that access is maintained for emergency vehicles.

Insp Roughneen said that Gardai will be out enforcing the parking laws again this weekend and that motorists could face an €80 fine and three penalty points for parking offences, such as parking on a footpath, causing an obstruction or blocking residential areas, for example.
