Giles returns to Meath coaching ticket

Trevor Giles has been appointed by Colm O'Rourke to replace Paul Garrigan as coach of the Meath senior football team for 2024.

Garrigan's surprise departure after the Tailteann Cup success left a void on O'Rourke's management team and with Barry Horgan also expected to join the coaching ticket Meath now look to have a strong set-up.

Skryne man Giles was formerly a coach with Meath under another Skryne manager Mick O'Dowd between 2013 and 2015 and now links up with another Skryne man in O'Rourke.

Horgan is expected to take on the role of strength & Conditioning coach after the departure of Eugene Eivers who is expected to return to the same role with the Meath Ladies.

Horgan has been general manager of Meath underage football but is suitably qualified after time spent as head of performance, academy and pathways with Brumbies Rugby, in addition to similar roles in Longford, Cavan and Dublin.

Giles is a two-time All-Ireland winner with Meath in 1996 and 1999, three time All-star and two-time Footballer of the Year and will join former players Barry Callaghan and Stephen Bray who are selectors.

Meath GAA Chairman John Kavanagh, who is not seeking re-election at this year's convention, welcomed the appointment.

"Trevor is a welcome addition to the backroom team for the coming season. One of the greatest footballers of his generation, this is a magnificent appointment for Meath GAA and will add greatly to our backroom team as we look to build upon the success of winning the Tailteann Cup.”
