County councillors receive €2k pay increase

Meath county councillors have been granted a pay rise of over €2,000 from last month, according to a circular sent to the county council.

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage informed the local authorities throughout the country about the application of adjustments to the annual remuneration of elected members in accordance with adjustments to the pay of local authority employees under the Public service Agreement “Building Momentum – A new Public Service Agreement 2021-2023.

The annual amount of pay for elected members has gone up from €26,296.37 to €28,724 from 1st October this year. The councillors’ pay is linked to the Grade 4 Assistant Staff Officer pay scale in the local authorities.

Councillors retiring from their posts will receive gratuities. County councillors will receive €19,453 from 1st October this year (the figure last March was €19,166). Councillors of the old town councils are entitled to gratuity of €4,864 from 1st October this year (old rate was €4,792)
