Super six for Kilbeg as they chalk up win

Kilbeg made a sensational return to the Cumann na mBunscol competition as they claimed the Boys Div 4/5 Shield with a resounding 6-8 to 2-2 victory over Mount Hanover at Pairc Tailteann on Sunday.

With the wind at their backs Kilbeg dominated the opening half and led by 14 points at half-time.

It didn't take long for Kilbeg to make the wind advantage count as Jack Smith finished a low drive to the net after just 90 seconds.

Feidhlim Nulty added a point three minutes later and by the seventh minute Kilbeg were 2-1 to 0-0 to the good as Tommy Farrelly found the net.

Mount Hanover struggled to get out of their defence, but when they eventually did their sustained spell of pressure yielded reward as Cian Deasy netted after a well worked '45'.

The concession of that goal was just a temporary setback as Nulty settled Kilbeg with a second point before Farrelly landed a free to make it 2-3 to 1-0 after 15 minutes.

Maon Kellett added a point before another brace of goals from Nulty, when he tapped in Farrelly's centre from close range, and Smith extended the lead to 13 points and it was Kellett who added another point to ensure a 4-5 to 1-0 interval lead for Kilbeg.

Turning for the second-half with the wind at their backs Mount Hanover added two points to their tally inside 100 seconds with Peter Crosby and Cian Deasy on target.

However, Kilbeg quickly settled again with Nulty and Farrelly simply outstanding.

Both players added points before Jamie Breach gave Mount Hanover brief hope with a brilliant finish for his side's second goal which made it 2-2 to 4-7.

Breach went close to finding the net on a couple of other occasions, but hit the side-netting.

Kilbeg took advantage of those let-offs with Farrelly hitting their fifth goal and Charlie Purfield, who had major heart surgery 10 years ago, bagging the sixth with seven minutes remaining.

Both sides emptied their benches in the closing stages and it was Nulty who closed the scoring with a free for Kilbeg.
