Donal Keogan named as Meath 'Footballer of the Year'.

Keogan and McKeon claim senior player awards

Meath GAA Co Board announce winners for 2023

Rathkenny captain Donal Keogan has been named as the Footballer of the Year while Brendan McKeon has won the Hurler of the Year award.

The two players have been selected for their respective prizes in the Meath Co Board annual awards.

The selection of both players will not come as a surprise to those who have watched Rathkenny or Kildalkey regularly this year. Keogan helped his club to a rousing IFC victory over Duleek/Bellewstown while he was also consistently prominant as the club embarked on a run in the Leinster Club IFC. They were eventually defeated by Dublin side Scoil Ui Chonaill but only after a penalty shoot-out.

Brendan McKeon was a major force for Kildalkey as they chalked up their seventh SFC title. He was a consistent figure throughout their campaign helping to ensure any teams who got scores against Kildalkey had to work extremely hard to do so.

Kildalkey in general had a brilliant 2023 scooping championship titles in senior, intermediate and junior grades. They were, again, not surprisingly, named as the 'Club of the Year.'

Both Keogan and McKeon also sparkled on the inter-county fronts. Keogan captained the Royal County to success in the Tailteann Cup while McKeon was a regular as the hurlers pushed on to claim the Christy Ring Cup as well as a league title.

The 'Young Footballer of the Year' was named as Adam McDonnell from Summerhill while Kyle Ennis from Trim was nominated the 'Young Hurler of the Year.'

Andrew Smith from Dunshaughlin was named as the 'Referee of the Year' while the 'Most Improved Referee' award went to Robert Purfield (St Patrick's).

Walterstown's sustained efforts to improve their home has been recognised with the 'Ground of the Year' award. Bective claimed the award for best public relations.

The Hall of Fame will be announced at the Co Board's annual awards night.
