AI software similar to that used in the latest Beatles record is being used to grant the wish of a kells musician who suffered a brain injury following a car accident last year.

Tommie Reilly, a native of Oakley Park who acquired life changing injuries following a car accident on his way home from a gig in February 2022 will sing again thanks to new innovative technology.

Tommie who has spent the last year and a half in rehabilitation learning to talk, swallow and eat again is also a songwriter and had recorded a home demo which was never professionally recorded.

Friends of Tommie's at JAM Studios in Kells took on an unusual and exciting project at the Reilly family's request.

The team at JAM studios in Kells have used AI software to create a finished recording, where they extracted Tommy's voice from the original demo he recorded and created an arrangement around that basic demo.

The recording was created using a similar process to that used in the latest Beatles release "Now And Then" which allowed the musicians to extract vocals from Tommie's home demo.

"Any Port In A Storm" was written before Tommie’s tragic accident that left him with life changing injuries with the lyrics having a strangely coincidental relevance to the night of his accident and the theme of staying strong.

Musicians on the recording include James Quinn, Martin Quinn, Andrew Quinn & David Gough.

A fundraising event is taking place in St Colmcille’s Church in Kells on Thursday 7th December 2023 at 8.00 pm for Tommie who now lives in nearby Mullagh with his wife and young family to help with the costs associated with his rehabilitation.

"We want to use this recording to help promote the upcoming fundraiser," said a spokesperson for the event.

"We hope to also perform the song using Tommie’s voice with a live band on the night, which we think is going to be very special as Tommie cannot currently in perform himself," they added.

"There is a wonderful line-up of entertainment for this concert which includes acts such as, Liam Lawton, Deirdre Shannon, Brendan McCahey, Lauren Carroll and Very Special Guests with full band.

"It's a wonderful cause for a very important member of our local community."
