Slane Bypass plan to include a new bridge across the Boyne

The N2 Slane Bypass will comprise 3.5 km dual carriageway bypass, a bridge approximately 258m long crossing the River Boyne, three roundabouts, the realignment of 1.4 km of the N51 National Road and Public Realm improvement and traffic management measures in Slane village.

The Public Realm Plan includes the reconfiguration of the junction at The Square in Slane, including the removal of traffic light control, as well as the provision of a car park on the N51 east of The Square which will include new openings in the rubble stone wall which is a protected structure.

There are proposals for shared footway/cycleway facilities, including a pedestrian/cyclist bridge to the existing Boyne Canal towpath with access to the carpark from existing N2 south of The Square junction.

The proposed road development will take a route through Painestown and Slane, passing through the townlands of Johnstown, Slane, Cullen Fennor, Slanecastle Demesne and Cashel.

There will be approximately 2.7 km of accommodation works and maintenance access tracks, a new road overbridge to allow the proposed N2 to pass under Rossnaree Road, two farm accommodation overbridges and three new culverts on the Mattock (Mooretown) Stream and the removal of the existing culvert under existing N2.

The proposals will involve the acquisition of three private dwellings and demolition of two of these, the acquisition and demolition of a derelict gate lodge and agricultural buildings including an uninhabited former dwelling.

The proposals will also involve utility diversions, and drainage systems, including attenuated outfalls; landscaping and environmental mitigation measures; together with all ancillary and consequential Scheme works.
