JP McManus is set to donate millions to the GAA

McManus set to boost coffers of Meath GAA clubs - again

Co Committee secretary Flynn welcomes Limerick billionaire's donation

GAA clubs in Meath are set to benefit once again from the the generosity of Limerick business JP McManus.

Billionaire financier McManus is set to donate €1 million to every GAA Co Board in the country from his JP McManus Charitable Foundation.

Much like the figure of €100,000 McManus donated to every GAA Co Board in 2018 in the aftermath of Limerick's first All-Ireland SHC triumph in 45 years, it is expected that the donation will be divided equally amongst GAA, camogie and LGFA clubs.

With 60 clubs in Meath it is expected that each club could receive a windfall of €16,666 and recently returned Meath GAA Co Board secretary Ciaran Flynn is delighted with the donation.

"We at the Meath GAA County Committee are immensely grateful for the extraordinary generosity of JP McManus in donating €1 million to each GAA county board in Ireland," said Flynn.

"This kind of support is not just a financial boost but a significant vote of confidence in the heart and soul of community sports in Ireland.

"Such a donation is transformative. It will empower us to enhance our programs, support our players, and improve our facilities, ensuring that Gaelic games continue to flourish at all levels in County Meath. This contribution goes beyond the immediate; it’s an investment in the future of our youth and the enduring spirit of our community games.

"JP McManus’s commitment to Gaelic games reflects a deep understanding of their importance in Irish culture and community cohesion. We are inspired and motivated by this gesture and pledge to utilise this fund to further the growth and development of GAA in our county.

"On behalf of the Meath GAA County Committee and all our members, I extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. McManus. His generosity will leave a lasting impact on GAA in Meath and across the nation," concluded Flynn.

As Limerick sponsor, the financier and racehorse owner has been a huge benefactor of Gaelic games in his native county … but now every corner of Ireland is poised to benefit from his largesse, in a donation rising to around €32m.

Limerick GAA confirmed that it has received a €1m donation from JP and Noreen McManus and family, to be distributed evenly to the GAA, camogie and ladies football clubs within the county.

There is no reference to other counties in the Limerick statement, which outlines that clubs have this morning been notified of the news, adding: “The funds which will be distributed before Christmas will greatly help clubs as they prepare their plans for the 2024 season.”

“We are delighted with the news today,” added Limerick chairperson Seamus McNamara. “The clubs are the bedrock of the GAA, and this will help in a time when costs are increasing for clubs to manage their funds. We are exceptionally grateful to JP, Noreen and all the McManus family for this fantastic donation
