Gorman honoured at hugely successful NEFL awards night

Gerry Gorman and Robinstown FC were the stars of the show at the North East Football League (NEFL) awards night held in the Ardboyne Hotel Navan.

Gorman was honoured for his decades of diligent service to the league by becoming the first inductee into the NEFL Hall of Fame. The long-serving official was inducted into the Hall of Fame by currently secretary Justin Burke and Minister for Sport Thomas Byrne TD.

Robinstown picked up the Club of the Year award for their heroic campaign that saw them claim the Leinster Junior Shield as well as the NEFL Div 3 title and the O'Neill Shield.

Trim Celtic's double winning season was also honoured as they received their medals for the Premier Division and for the Challenge Cup.

League Secretary Justin Burke thanked the NEFL sponsors for attending the evening (UHY Farrelly Dawe White, PM Blinds & Shutters) and made apologies for some that were unable to attend on the night (O’Neills Sportswear, Conrad Clinton Carpet Specialists, Superior Racking & Shelving LTD).

Just before the official presentations began, Minister For Sport Thomas Byrne was welcomed up the stage to speak to all the guests, with MC Justin Burke mentioning the Byrnes family name and association with Blackbull FC, and the fact the Thomas's two brothers, James and Barry, were founding members of the club.

The Minister spoke about the push for clubs in the North East region to apply for all sports grants, and that he would do all in his power to help and support their applications. He stated that he would be visiting the MDL grounds in the next week or so to see the facilities and hopefully will help with future projects at the ground.

The hugely successful evening was brilliantly MC'd by Burke and with PRO Tommy Melia providing excellent video and photo coverage and Yvonne Brady ensuring the smooth running of the presentations it was a night to remember.
