Barry advances at Ally Pally

Duleek's Keane Barry booked his place in round two of the World Darts Championship following a comfortable 3-1 win over Reynaldo Rivera at Alexandra Palace last night.

Barry's reward for victory is a clash against World number two Michael van Gerwen on Tuesday (7pm).

"It was one of them, I didn't get really get into my own game or my own rhythm. It was a scrappy game but the main thing is the win and to get through to the next round," said Barry after Saturday's win.

Philippines' Rivera tried to disrupt Barry's style by slowing the game down, but that style backfired on him as the boisterous crowd got on his back.

Despite his slow style Rivera took the opening leg but lost his throw twice from there to hand Barry the first set.

Again the underdog took the first leg in set two, but Keane won 3-2 to take a two-set lead.

However Barry's form deserted him in the third set as Rivera cruised to a 3-0 win , but the Meath man responded to win the next set 3-1 to secure a 3-1 overall success and a place against the former three time champion.

Looking forward to Tuesday's next round Barry admits he will need to improve to beat van Gerwen.

"There's no pressure on me so I'm going to go up and enjoy myself and I know I'm capable of winning. I need to play a lot better than I did there (against Rivera). I'll have to be a lot better on Tuesday," concluded the Meath man.
