Play space provision must be included on housing scheme plans

When Meath Co Council officials are engaging in pre-planning discussions with developers on the issue of play space, they should be asked to consider a range of play equipment to suit all ages, a Fine Gael councillor has said.

Cllr Maria Murphy tabled a notice of motion to that effect at the December meeting of the county council. Council officials replied that it acknowledged the request.

The Meath county development plan confirmed the policy of the council stating that planning applications for residential development of 50 units or more be accompanied by a social infrastructure assessment to determine if facilities in the area are sufficient to provide for the needs of future residents of all age cohorts and where deficiencies are identified, proposals will be required to either rectify the shortcoming or suitably restrict or phase the development in accordance with the capacity of existing or planned services.
