Navan communities and clubs rally to assist search for missing Navan man
The massive search operation for a Navan man missing since the early hours of Saturday morning continued today (Wednesday).
The fifth day of the search for Sean Farrelly saw a huge mobilisation of rescue and community groups along with the Gardai and Meath Civil Defence.
Meath River Rescue, Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and the Garda Water Unit were joined by a canine rescue unit from County Wexford, as well as the local community.
The search has continued from Saturday morning when Meath Fire Service were among the first on the scene, right through Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, St Stephen’s Day and today.
The family of Sean Farrelly made an appeal after he went missing on Friday night/Saturday morning.
Sean was last seen near the Palace Night Club in Navan and has been missing since 2.30am on Saturday morning.
He had been on a night out with fellow coaches from Simonstown Gaels Football Club.
Sean was wearing jeans, white runners and a maroon jumper at the time he went missing.
The family are asking if anyone has seen him or if they have any information to contact the family directly or Navan Garda Station on 046 907 9930
A Garda helicopter did a sweep of the area yesterday (Tuesday).
Simonstown Gaels and Navan O’Mahony’s football clubs have joined in the search as has OMP football club.
“The local community has been a huge help. We’d like to thank everyone who has come out to help the search and those who have come out with food for the searchers,” said Christy Rennicks of Meath River Rescue.
“There has been huge support for the search,” he said.
Dan Keane, chair of Simonstown Gaels GFC, said club members were shocked when they heard Sean was missing.
“We are doing everything we can to support his family. Sean and his wife and children are valuable members of the club.
“This is a very difficult time for his family and for all of us.”
Members of Simonstown GFC have been involved in the search since Saturday and has organised walks along the riverbank.
“We will support the search and Sean’s family for a long as is necessary,” he said.
Mr Keane paid tribute to Meath River Rescue, Meath Civil Defence and the other rescue organisations for the work they are doing.
